Grinding of the teeth (bruxism) is a habit
that will wear down the teeth, cause sensitivity to temperature,
may cause notching of the eye-teeth along the gumline, and
cause your jaw muscles to feel tired, or stiff. Most people
grind their teeth at one time or another, but not to the same
degree. Dentists have long believed that the grinding of teeth
is stress-related. Sometimes the grinding is so loud that
others in the house can hear it rooms away.
Fortunately, there is an appliance that stops the clenching/grinding.
It is called an nti
appliance. At this clinic, I usually make one to fit the
lower teeth, so that it is
comfortable enough to wear even at work, and doesn't interfere
with speaking.
